Stumbled into lock picking as a hobby last month and learned something wild

I was killing time on YouTube one night and fell into a rabbit hole about lock picking. Never thought I'd be into it, but I grabbed a cheap $15 clear practice lock and a basic pick set off Amazon. What surprised me was how much it teaches you about patience and tiny movements. There's this moment when you feel one pin set after another, and weirdly, it's super calming. I found out that most cheap padlocks can be opened in under 30 seconds by someone who knows what they're doing. That fact blew my mind and now I'm obsessed with figuring out different types of locks. Anyone else pick this up randomly and find it way more satisfying than you expected?

The 30 second thing is a good party trick but the real mindblower for me was how many so called "high security" locks use the same basic wafer or pin tumbler design from like the 1800s. I took apart a cheap Master Lock and a $60 disc detainer lock and the difference was just one extra moving part. The whole industry is basically running on old tech with a fresh coat of paint. Lock picking honestly ruined my trust in locks in general. Now I look at a heavy padlock and just see a toy for someone with a $10 tool.
