That $20 iPhone I grabbed off Facebook Marketplace last month was a total disaster

Saw a listing for an iPhone X at 20 bucks near downtown Phoenix last Tuesday. Thought it was a steal since the seller said it just had a cracked screen. Got it home, plugged it in, and the thing started smoking after 5 minutes. Took it apart and found the battery was all swollen and the charging port was corroded with rust. Lesson learned: never buy a phone without seeing it turn on first... Has anyone else gotten burned by a listing that looked too good to be true?

Bet twenty bucks is still a good deal if you can fix it yourself.

Learned that same lesson with a "working" Xbox I got for cheap... Smelled like burnt plastic the second I plugged it in. People will sell anything with a pulse and call it a steal. Always push for a video of it running or just walk away. A $20 iPhone was always going to have something wrong with it.

Yeah but did you get burned twice before learning?
