The moment I realized old ThinkPads are built different
I was at a pawn shop in Akron last Saturday and saw a beat-up T420 with a cracked screen, but the keyboard still felt perfect. The guy behind the counter said he's dropped that thing off a ladder twice and it still boots. Has anyone else found a specific old laptop model that just refuses to die no matter what you throw at it?

I used to roll my eyes at people who swore by old ThinkPads. Figured it was just nostalgia or people trying to look cool. Then I found a beat up X220 at a flea market for thirty bucks. The thing had a dent in the corner, sticky keys, and the trackpad was basically a scar. I dropped it by accident getting out of my car, and it just kept booting. Now it sits on my desk as my backup machine. Still works, still feels solid, and yeah, the keyboard is way better than my new laptop. That comment about dropping it off a ladder doesn't even surprise me anymore.

The real unsung hero is how easy these things are to fix when something does break. A new keyboard or a cracked screen swap takes like 10 minutes and costs less than a pizza.
