Pro tip: Check your old sleeping bag's loft before a trip

I was getting my gear ready for a weekend at Hocking Hills and noticed my 10 year old synthetic bag felt flat as a pancake. Turns out the loft had dropped by almost 2 inches over the years, which means it's probably only good down to 50 degrees now instead of the 30 it was rated for. Has anyone else had luck reviving old synthetic fill or just bit the bullet on a new bag?

50 degrees is still fine for summer nights but that drop sounds brutal for spring or fall trips. Did you try fluffing it in a dryer on low with some tennis balls before you gave up on it?

Yeah but I gotta push back on the dryer trick with tennis balls. @terryr46 I actually tried that before I returned the bag. Three tennis balls, low heat, ran it for 40 minutes. It helped a little but not enough. The down just wasn't lofty to begin with. I think some bags just have cheap fill that won't bounce back no matter what you do. Ended up getting a different brand with higher fill power and the difference was night and day.
