My buddy Dave told me I was storing my tapes wrong and it blew my mind

I always kept my VHS tapes flat stacked because it looked neat on the shelf. Dave said I was crushing the bottom tapes and messing up the reels over time, something about the weight pressing down on the spindles. Switched to storing them upright like books last month and now I check each one before rewinding. Has anyone else had cases fail from stacking them too high?

Yeah stacking them too high definitely warps the cases over time...

Wait, hold up. You're telling me stacking them can actually warp the cases? That's wild, I never even thought about that happening. I've got a whole pile of them in my garage right now just stacked up like a tower. Guess I better go check on them before I end up with a bunch of ruined stuff.
