Boiling cartridge pins vs isopropyl alcohol which actually cleans better?

I tried boiling a beat up Mega Man 2 cart that wouldn't boot after scrubbing with alcohol and a toothbrush did nothing. The boiling trick got it working again on first try but I've heard it can warp the plastic or mess up the labels over time. Anybody else swear by one method over the other for really stubborn games?

And thats the thing with boiling, you gotta be super careful about drying it out. @danielh81 hit the nail on the head, I left mine sitting on a paper towel for like two hours and it still had some moisture trapped under the chip. What I ended up doing was putting it in a ziplock bag with some rice for a full day after, which felt ridiculous but it worked. The boiling definitely lifted some gunk the alcohol couldnt touch, but I swear the plastic around the edge felt a little softer after, almost like it had been microwaved too long. For my beat up Duck Tales cart I went back to alcohol but used a q-tip and a lot more elbow grease, then let it dry overnight just to be safe.

Did you dry the cart completely before testing it after boiling?
