My $60 retrobright kit ruined my SNES shell
I bought one of those UV light and peroxide kits from a seller on eBay thinking it would save my yellowed Super Nintendo. After 6 hours under the light, the plastic came out blotchy and brittle, with a crack near the cartridge slot. Has anyone had better luck with just hydrogen peroxide and sunlight on sunny days?

48 hours of direct July sunlight with 3% hydrogen peroxide from the drugstore did the trick on my yellowed SNES shell two summers ago. No cracks, no blotchiness, just an even whitening that matched the controller ports perfectly. That eBay kit sounds like it concentrated the UV too much in one spot, which is probably why yours came out patchy and got brittle. I wrap the shell in cling wrap to keep the peroxide from evaporating and rotate it every two hours so the sun hits all sides evenly. That sun method takes way longer like 12 to 20 hours depending on the weather but it's way gentler on the plastic than those strong UV bulbs. You might want to try the sun method again on a spare shell if you can find one cheap since your current shell is probably too far gone.

Your current shell is probably too far gone"? Man, it's a piece of plastic from the 90s, not a fine china teacup. As long as it still snaps together and the games play, who cares if it's a little blotchy or has a crack?
