I keep seeing folks confuse 70s reissues with original pressings

Went to a garage sale last Saturday and this guy was trying to sell a 1977 repress of a classic rock album as a first pressing for $50. I pulled out my phone and showed him the matrix numbers in the dead wax, you can always tell by the stamps. He got kinda defensive but I walked away with a clean original from 1971 for $8 instead. Anyone else run into sellers who don't know the difference?

Man, I swear half the people selling records have no clue what they're actually holding. I had some guy try to sell me a beat-up 80s reissue of a punk album claiming it was an original because "it says 1978 on the label." Yeah buddy, that's the recording date not the pressing date. I just laughed and walked away. The dead wax never lies. Matrix numbers are the only truth in this hobby.

gotta be real with you, i think people get way too worked up about this stuff. like, yeah it sucks when someone tries to sell a reissue as an original, but at the end of the day it's just records. if it sounds good and you're happy with the price, who really cares? i've got plenty of reissues that play just fine and i didn't pay a fortune for them. seems like half the fun in this hobby is the hunt and the stories anyway, not sweating over matrix numbers.
