Found out the hard way last week that checking brake fluid can save your car from a crash
I was driving my 2002 Civic near Austin when the pedal went soft, turned out the fluid was low from a tiny leak in the hose that I ignored for months, anyone else ever had a close call from skipping basic checks?

Used to think brake fluid was a dealer scam to upsell me, but a similar soft pedal scare last year changed my mind real quick. Now I check it every oil change and caught a cracked hose before it got bad.

Jumping on that, the cracked hose thing is exactly why I got religious about checking mine too. A buddy of mine ignored a soft pedal for months, blamed it on old fluid, and ended up with his brake line blowing out on a downhill curve. Lucky he was going slow, but it wrecked his whole week and cost him way more than a fluid flush would have. It's wild how one little crack or leak can turn a simple maintenance thing into a major safety hazard. Do you check the lines visually when you top off the fluid, or just go by the pedal feel?
