Hot take: I spent 3 hours on a simple quarter crack patch that should have taken 30 minutes

Just sounds like you rushed the prep work.

Rant: My local shop's 'fan appreciation day' was just a clearance sale for old action figures

Totally agree with you @hayes.tara, that excuse is so thin. I once got hyped for a "vintage game sale" that was just a box of sports titles from 2008. Felt like such a scam. Using hard times to justify lying to your customers is just low. Makes you not want to trust any local event ever again.

After trying both a full synthetic and a conventional 15W-40 in my old 7.3 Powerstroke, the synthetic's cold start performance in our Wisconsin winters was the clear winner.

@wells.brooke You're not wrong about the cold starts. My old truck sounded like a coffee can full of rocks until the oil warmed up. That forum guy hunting for the perfect old-spec oil is basically doing alchemy at this point. Just run the good synthetic and save yourself the headache. Watching people overthink oil is a full time hobby for some folks.

Warning: Heard a guy at the trailhead say his $200 sleeping pad popped on a rock

Yeah, I was a die-hard inflatable person for years, swore by the pack size. But a single sharp twig on a trip last fall left me sleeping on the ground. That cold, hard reality finally made me get a foam pad. It's a trade-off, but waking up dry and warm is worth the extra bulk on my pack.

Hot take: People keep overcooking the onions for my great-aunt's chili recipe

Yeah, that's the worst. For chili, I always cook the onions just until they get soft and a little see-through, then I add the meat. They keep their bite and sweetness that way. Mushy onions just disappear into the background and you miss the whole point. Maybe send your cousin a quick text with that timing tip, it saved my dad's recipe too.
