I found my old parts catalog from 2004 and the prices made me laugh

Back then, I'd call the distributor, wait for a fax with the price, and drive across town to pick up a $12 thermal fuse. Now I just open an app on my phone and have it delivered tomorrow for half that. Anyone else miss the old catalogs but not the hassle?

Honestly, forced you to triple-check before ordering.

The real question is whether we actually saved time back then or just felt busy. I spent more hours on hold than I did installing some of those parts. Do you think the old system made us better at diagnosing problems before ordering, or was it just a needless filter?

Buddy of mine once drove to three different auto shops just to confirm a part number because his parts guy was out sick. Spent half a day on that wild goose chase, turns out the part was wrong anyway. So honestly not sure the old system made us any better at diagnosing, just better at wasting gas.
