I heard a city inspector say they're going to start citing for flush cuts on street trees

Overheard him talking to a property manager on a job in Springfield last week. He said the new policy starts in July and they're focusing on the maple plantings along Main Street. I've always tried to avoid them, but now I'm double-checking every single collar. Has anyone else's municipality gotten this strict about pruning cuts?

They're actually going to write tickets for that? I've seen way worse damage from mowers that never gets a second look. This is just creating busywork.

Ever see a flush cut kill a tree later?

Victor's right that cities have bigger problems, but getting cited is a real pain. I got a warning last year and now I just leave a tiny stub on every cut. It's ugly but it keeps the inspector off my back.

Focusing on the maple plantings seems a bit over the top... a city has bigger problems than a few flush cuts. I've seen trees heal just fine from them, honestly. This feels like making work for the sake of it.
