A friend's picnic spread made me ditch the separate boards
Last month at Golden Gate Park, my buddy Sam laid out one giant board with everything mixed together, crackers touching the hummus, fruit right next to the cheddar. I always kept things separate, thought it looked cleaner. But watching people grab a little of this and that without having to reach across three plates changed my mind. Anyone else given up on separate boards for one big messy layout?

Man, this is the same thing that happened to me with my garage. I used to have every tool on its own hook, labeled bins, the whole setup. Then one day I just dumped the screwdrivers in one drawer and never looked back. Same deal with my kitchen spices, had them all grouped by type, now they just live in one basket and I grab what I need. I swear there's some kind of life lesson in here about how keeping everything separate is really just us trying to control stuff that doesn't need controlling. One big messy board where people can actually reach what they want beats a pretty setup nobody wants to touch.
