Fig jam vs. regular grape jelly on a snack plate, game changer

I did a side by side test last Friday with two snack plates for movie night. One had a basic grape jelly and the other had this fig jam I grabbed from the farmers market. The fig jam paired so much better with the sharp cheddar and those rosemary crackers, like it actually added something instead of just being sweet. The grape jelly just sat there tasting like a PB&J. Anyone else try swapping out a standard dip for something unexpected and have it totally work?

Guess I've been living like a savage with my plain old grape jelly.

Actually that reminds me, @faithg26 - I once spent a whole summer eating nothing but strawberry rhubarb jam on toast because I found a case of it on clearance for like a dollar each. By August I couldn't even look at anything red without feeling queasy. Grape jelly is classic for a reason, never understood why people act like it's the cheap stuff. Sometimes simple is better, you know?
