Hot take: my cousin's 3 year old ate more veg off a snack plate than at dinner, and it made me rethink the cracker rule
I was at my cousin's place in Fort Wayne last weekend and she put out a snack plate for her 3 year old with cut up cucumber, cherry tomatoes, and a little hummus in the middle. The kid cleaned the whole plate in like 10 minutes and barely touched her dinner plate an hour later. Her mom said she's been doing this for about 6 months now and it works every time. What hit me was that I always pile my plates with crackers and cheese first and push the veggies to the edge like an afterthought. So I tried flipping the order at home this week, veggies and dip in the middle and crackers on the side, and I actually ate way more of the good stuff. Has anyone else changed up the layout of their plate and noticed they snack different? I'm curious if the middle spot really matters or if it was just a fluke.
Cucumbers in the middle and crackers at the edge sounds dumb simple but it probably works. Kids just grab whatever's closest to their hand, and adults are the same way honestly.
