Gotta disagree a little here. I've been shooting night sky stuff for about four years now and wider lenses actually make the trails look shorter, not more dramatic. Like a 14mm will show a star trail as maybe a 10 degree arc in the frame, while a 50mm will stretch that same trail across half the shot. If you want short trails to pop bigger, try stacking a bunch of shorter exposures instead of one long one. You get way more detail in the stars without the trails blowing out.
