Spent 4 hours chasing a door gap on a Civic before I found the real problem
Customer's 2019 Civic had a 5mm gap at the top of the driver door after a fender bender, and I kept adjusting the hinges and striker for 4 hours thinking it was alignment. Turned out the door skin itself was tweaked from the impact and I had to pull it back before anything would line up. Anyone else get burned by chasing the wrong panel first?

5mm sounds more like a skin issue than hinge slop, good catch.
