Am I the only one whose friends give unsafe car advice?
My buddy keeps telling me to use cheap oil filters from a discount store to save cash. I tried it once on my own truck and the filter blew out, causing a huge mess. Now I warn everyone at the shop to stick with trusted brands, even if pals pressure you. It's not worth risking engine damage over a few bucks.
Wait, the filter actually blew out? That's terrifying. I've seen cheap ones fail slowly and leak, but a full blowout could dump all your oil in seconds. Your engine would be toast before the oil light even came on. Saving five bucks isn't worth a four thousand dollar repair. Some advice is just dangerous.
Remember when people said brand didn't matter for filters? I used to grab the cheapest one and figured it was fine. Seeing how a real failure can wreck an engine totally changed my mind on that.
