Factory test benches vs building my own, which way do you go?

I had to choose between using the OEM test setup or piecing together my own rig for a 737 flap control unit. Went with a homemade setup using a bench supply and an arduino for signal gen, saved maybe $1,200 but took 3 weekends to get right. Anyone else regret skipping the factory path or did it pay off for them?

Skip the homemade rig next time, factory gear pays for itself when you count your weekends as real money.
