The heat lamp timer that stopped a coop fire before it started
Last Tuesday I walked out to find my heat lamp cord melted halfway through, right where it draped over the roost bar from the night before. I switched to a $14 outlet timer that kills power during the warmest part of the day, and it's been two weeks with zero hot spots. Has anyone else caught a cord issue like this, or am I just lucky it didn't burn the whole flock?

Did you catch it before the chicks woke up?

Nope, they were already up and chirping by the time I got out there. @lily394 those little monsters are on a strict 5am schedule now, no catching them off guard. Guess I'm just gonna have to set my alarm earlier if I want to sneak a peak.
