Forget watching The Room for laughs, I finally saw the error in my MST3K approach
I used to just throw on Mystery Science Theater 3000 episodes and half-watch while scrolling my phone. Last Friday I finally sat down and watched Manos: The Hands of Fate without any commentary. It hit me: I was missing the whole point of bad movies by not paying attention to the actual awful acting and nonsensical plot. The way the camera lingers on nothing for five seconds or the kid whispering nonsense made me laugh harder than the jokes. Now I watch a bad flick straight through first, then go back with the riffs. Has anyone else flipped their whole bad movie night routine like that?

You gotta watch it raw first. Start with something short like The Room, then go for Manos when you're ready for a real challenge. Splits your movie night into two parts, first one for laughing at the badness, second one for the good jokes.
