I finally picked sourdough over croissants for a party and wow

Had to bring dessert to a family thing last weekend, 20 people total. Spent like 3 hours debating if I should do sourdough boules or spend the whole day laminating croissant dough. Picked sourdough because I could make 4 loaves at once instead of 12 tiny croissants. Got there and my aunt goes 'oh, bread again?' while my uncle ate half a loaf by himself. Has anyone else had a choice between two baking projects where one was way more work but the other got you zero credit?

Wait hold on, your aunt said 'bread again'? That's wild. Like sourdough is not just bread, it's a whole labor of love and science and timing. I would have been so mad I'd have taken that half loaf my uncle was hoarding and eaten it right in front of her just to prove a point. But seriously, croissants are a whole different beast, you made the right call for a big group. Next time maybe just bring the croissants and watch everyone lose their minds over how fancy they are, show her what's up.

Three years ago at Thanksgiving, my cousin brought a beautiful olive loaf she spent two days on, and her mom said "oh, more bread" in that same dismissive tone. I swear, @faithb78, you hit the nail on the head about sourdough being a labor of love. That kind of comment just makes me want to grab the whole basket and hide it in my car. Honestly, croissants are a power move because they look fancy but take half the effort (relatively speaking) to pull off for a crowd. Next time I'd show up with a dozen perfectly golden ones and a little jar of fancy butter, see if she still says "bread again" then.
