Thought sourdough starter was overhyped until my loaf finally rose after 9 days
Tried making sourdough three times before and got flat rocks each time. Gave up for two years. Then my neighbor Bev in Fresno handed me a jar of her 15 year old starter and said just feed it once a day, that's it. Day 4 it doubled, day 6 it smelled like yogurt, and yesterday my first loaf came out with an open crumb and a real crust. Now I'm wondering if my old starter was just too young the whole time, anyone else notice a big jump after week two?
