My tomato cage collapsed and took out my pepper plant last week
I was out watering my balcony garden last Thursday evening when I heard this weird creaking sound. Turned around and my big tomato cage just folded over on itself, snapping the main stem on my Roma tomato and crushing my jalapeno pepper plant underneath. The cage was only like $8 from the hardware store on Main Street and I'd been using it for 3 months. I managed to prop the tomato up with some bamboo skewers and string but the pepper lost like half its branches. The soil in the pot was bone dry too, which probably made the whole setup top-heavy. Has anyone else had cheap wire cages fail on them in windy conditions? I'm thinking about switching to those square metal ones but they're like $15 each.

Used to think all tomato cages were the same. Got a fancy square one last season after the same thing happened to mine. Way more stable. Worth the extra cash.

Used to think all tomato cages were the same" Wait, you're telling me a square one costs more and actually works? I used to just grab whatever was on sale.
