Had to choose between a $40 clipper and a $200 one for my first real shop setup

When I started cutting out of my garage last year I figured any clipper would do the job. Picked up a cheap Wahl from the drugstore for $40 and within 3 months the blade was pulling and the motor was screaming. Swapped to a Magic Clip at $200 and its night and day difference even on thick heads of hair. Anyone else burn through a cheap clipper before finally spending real money?

My $40 Wahl lasted four years before I finally replaced it. I cut my own hair and my two sons' hair every two weeks without any major issues. Maybe I got lucky or my expectations were lower, but a $40 clipper that lasts four years sounds like a win to me.

That "night and day difference" part really hit home for me. I had the exact same experience with a cheap clipper that started pulling and heating up after just a couple months, so I feel your pain there. It's rough when you're trying to save money and it ends up costing you more in the long run (and frustration). I swear my old $40 one would leave red marks on my neck if I wasn't super careful, never had that problem after upgrading. Glad you found something that actually works for you now.
