I finally settled the clipper vs scissors debate for myself after 8 years behind the chair

So I've been going back and forth on this forever. For my last 50 haircuts I timed myself using clippers for the bulk removal versus scissors. Clippers got me done in 22 minutes on average, but scissors took 35 minutes. The thing is though, the guys who got scissors kept coming back more often, like every 2 weeks instead of 3. My regulars say scissor cuts just look more natural and grown in better. Has anyone else noticed a big difference in retention between the two methods or am I overthinking this?

Do you think the scissor guys actually see a real difference, or is it just that they like the extra attention?

Jump into tracking your numbers like you're already doing, it's the only way to really know. I'd say pay attention to what those repeat guys actually tell you, not just the time difference. Some clients just prefer the texture of a scissor cut because it doesn't leave that blunt line clippers can make, especially on thicker hair. If your scissor clients are coming back every two weeks without fail, you're probably onto something real. Maybe split test it for a month with new clients, try clippers on some and scissors on others, then see who rebooks. That extra 13 minutes might literally be worth double the money in the long run.

Guess the 13 extra minutes are your secret weapon for repeat customers then.
