I was torquing seatpost bolts way too tight for like 15 years. A carbon frame with a hairline crack near the binder was my wake-up call.

Yeah, that's a brutal way to learn. A torque wrench feels like a hassle until you need one. It's crazy how little force some of those bolts actually need. I've seen so many posts and stems wrecked by pure muscle.

Actually, torque wrenches need calibration too.

Man, that reminds me of when I first got my carbon handlebars. I was so scared of over-tightening that I barely snugged the faceplate bolts. Hit a bump and the bars rotated right in the stem. Scared me half to death. Found out later I was like 2 Nm under the spec.
