I finally figured out why my window stickers weren't working

For months I kept putting those little hawk decals in the corners of my big living room window, but I still heard that awful 'thump' a couple times a week. The problem hit me when I saw a robin fly straight into the *center* of the glass, completely ignoring the stickers on the edges. They need to be spaced no more than 4 inches apart across the whole surface, not just the frame. Anyone have a good source for cheap, dense patterns of dots or tape?

That "no more than 4 inches apart" rule is the key part. It's actually even tighter for small birds. The spacing needs to be about the width of your hand, so a little over 2 inches, to stop them from trying to fly through the gaps. Just putting a few stickers in the corners makes a big, clear runway right in the middle. I used a roll of translucent tape and made a grid on my problem window. It looks a bit messy but the thumps stopped completely.

Did your friend mention if the grid made the window look super weird from inside? My neighbor tried something similar with tape and said it felt like looking through a jail cell from her living room. She ended up swapping it for those UV decals that just look like a light shimmer to us.

Yeah, I read that birds see the stickers as solid objects and just aim for the open spaces between them. What pattern did you end up using?
