My copy of Arkham Horror had a missing card right before game night

We were setting up in my friend's basement in Portland last weekend, and I opened the 'Mythos' deck to find the 'Ancient One' card was just gone. I had to quickly write the stats on a blank card from a different game (I used a spare from Catan, which felt wrong). It worked fine, but I'm curious if anyone else has a better fix for a missing piece when you can't wait for a replacement.

Honestly that's just how board games go sometimes.

Disagree a little, @emery965. It depends on the game. A well-designed game should minimize those "that's just how it goes" moments where you feel stuck. If a player can get locked out from doing anything fun for a whole hour, that's usually a flaw in the rules, not just bad luck.

Has anyone else ever had to steal a piece from a completely unrelated game just to keep things moving? I had a similar issue last year with a copy of Eldritch Horror. The research tokens were all there except one, and I ended up using a glass bead from my wife's old beading kit. It was ugly but it got us through the game. And hey @emery965, I get what you mean about things just happening, but sometimes you gotta get creative when the missing pieces show up at the worst time. I still think game companies should package the cards a little tighter so this kind of thing happens less often.
