That weld prep tip from Rusty on job 417 saved my ass
Guy told me to spend extra time on beveling and preheat for a 2-inch thick plate at the Evansville plant. Ignored him first time, weld cracked overnight. Redid it his way, passed x-ray check the next morning. Anyone else have a foreman whose advice you almost blew off?

Hell yeah, I feel this one. Had a similar thing happen with an old timer named Chuck at a refinery job back in 2012. He kept telling me to go easy on the wire speed for the root pass on some schedule 80 pipe. I figured I knew better, cranked it up, and the next day I had a nice little wormhole track in the weld. Redid it his way, slow and steady, and it laid in perfect. Now I always shut up and listen when the greybeards give me a tip, even if it sounds dumb at first.

Gotta love how the universe hands out humble pie with a side of slag. I swear, every old timer has that one trick that looks stupid until you try it and realize you been doing it wrong for years. Chuck probably saved you a few weeks of grinding and cussing, bet he didn't even smirk when you re-did that root pass did he?
