Our book club spent a month arguing over a single chapter's meaning

We picked a novel with a really vague ending, and one member insisted the main character was dead the whole time. I spent four evenings digging through old author interviews online, trying to find a solid answer. It turned out the writer had given two totally different explanations in separate talks. We finally voted to accept both readings, which took way longer than just picking a new book. Has your club ever gotten stuck on a detail like that?

Honestly, the author changing their mind is the real answer. It means the book is alive in a way. We spent a whole meeting once just talking about why an author would give two different answers, and it was way better than picking one meaning. It showed us the story was strong enough to hold both ideas.

Oh man, that sounds painfully familiar.

I used to think that way too until I saw the numbers from that study last year. Changed my whole view on it, honestly. @the_cole, you get it.
