So I dropped $60 on a soil moisture meter and it's a game changer

I kept killing my peace lily, overwatering it every time. Got this little probe thing online, stuck it in the pot, and it told me the soil was still wet when I thought it was dry. That was three months ago and the plant has put out four new leaves. Anyone else have a simple tool that saved their favorite plant?

You saying you thought the soil was dry but it was still wet is so real. I see this all the time, people trusting their gut over a simple check. It's like checking the oil in your car instead of just guessing when to add more.

Check the soil with your finger, it takes two seconds. People out here drowning their plants because a pot felt light.

Totally get what you mean about trusting your gut over a check. The thing @derek_burns87 misses is that some soils look and feel dry on top but are a swamp an inch down. My meter showed me that exact problem with a fancy potting mix. It held water way longer than my old dirt. That little tool taught me more about my plant's actual home than poking my finger ever did.
