Broke my good boning knife on a pork shoulder last Tuesday
Tip snapped clean off right at the handle while I was working through a stubborn shoulder blade, never had that happen with this brand before after 8 years. Sent it back to the factory, they want $35 to reforge it, anyone else ever bother with that or just buy a replacement?

Man that really sucks, losing a knife you've trusted for 8 years hurts worse than losing a new one. Honestly if it snapped right at the handle that sounds like a flaw in the steel, not something you did wrong on a pork shoulder. For $35 I'd probably do the reforge, since a new one of the same brand will run you way more than that anyway. Plus they're fixing your actual knife, the one you already know and like. But no shame in just grabbing a replacement either if you don't want to wait around. Tbh I'd ask them if the reforge comes with any kind of warranty on the repair before you send the money.
