Pro tip: don't buy a "professional" boning knife off a Facebook ad

I dropped $60 on one of those knives from some guy claiming it was used by butchers in Chicago. First day using it on a pork shoulder the blade chipped on the third cut. Had to finish the whole breakdown with my old Dexter knife I bought for $25 at a restaurant supply store. Anyone else get burned by those flashy knife ads that promise the world?

Man, those ads are total scams. I fell for one that claimed a Japanese chef forged it by hand, and it snapped in half trimming chicken thighs. Stick with Dexter or Victorinox, they're boring but actually work.

You really think a knife snapping on chicken thighs is that big of a deal? I mean, sure it stinks to lose money on a bad product but it's not like you lost a finger or anything. Those cheap knives from the mall kiosk or late night TV are always going to be junk no matter what they claim. Plus trimming chicken thighs isn't exactly heavy duty work so it's more about the metal being terrible than the whole hand forged story. I get being mad about wasting thirty bucks but calling it a total scam feels a little over the top when you can just grab another one for ten dollars at the grocery store. Maybe just stick with the boring ones that last a decade and don't worry about the fancy claims.
