Hot take: zip ties are way better than velcro straps for keeping cables tidy behind a desk

I tried velcro straps for 6 months behind my workstation in Denver and they kept slipping loose, so I swapped to zip ties last week and the difference is night and day - has anyone else found zip ties just hold things together better long term?

You see this everywhere though - people pick the quick fix that feels good at first but turns into a pain later. Velcro's like those magnetic phone mounts that seem genius until your phone flies off going over a bump. Zip ties are more like the old school way of doing things, like using actual screws instead of command strips - sure it takes more work upfront but you're not coming back to fix it every month. I got a buddy who used velcro on his PC cables and spent more time re-wrapping them than actually using the computer. Meanwhile I zip tied my entertainment center three years ago and haven't touched it since. Sometimes the hassle of cutting them off is worth the peace of mind knowing nothing's gonna slide around.

Whoa, I gotta push back on that one hard. I tried zip ties once and regretted it the second I needed to reroute a cable a week later. You have to cut them off every single time which means fishing out scissors or side cutters from behind a desk that's already a mess. With velcro, you just loosen it and move stuff around in two seconds. I mean, sure, zip ties are super tight at first, but they're a pain when your setup changes even a little. Maybe it's just me, but I'll take the small trade-off of occasional slip over ruining a cable with a sharp piece of plastic.
