Last month I finally got sick of the spaghetti mess behind my computer desk. I had two options sitting in my junk drawer: a bag of 50 zip ties I bought for $3 at the hardware store, or a roll of twist ties I stole from a loaf of bread. I went with the zip ties because I thought they'd look cleaner. Big mistake. I cinched everything down too tight and realized I couldn't swap out my monitor cable without cutting the whole bundle apart. Now I'm using bread ties looped loosely around each cord, and it's way easier to pull one out without untangling the universe. About 12 years ago I was helping my uncle redo his home office, and this older electrician named Frank came by to move an outlet. He saw my pile of tangled cables and just laughed, then grabbed a zip tie and showed me how to twist each wire into a loop before plugging it in.
