New power strip totally failed after 3 months

Honestly I picked up one of those basic power strips from the hardware store back in July for my TV setup. It was the cheapest option at like $12 and I figured it would hold up fine. Last week I noticed my wifi router kept dropping and couldn't figure out why until I saw the strip's light was flickering. Took it apart and one of the solder joints had completely cracked inside. Just ordered a heavy duty one from a different brand for $28, anyone else had cheap strips die on them randomly?

That flickering light probably means a wire was barely hanging on from day one.
