PSA: That faint light leak I chased for 8 hours was just a missing foam strip on the mirror box

You say "just a tiny rubber grommet," but I think there's a difference between a small part and a part that's completely missing. A grommet might be fiddly, but you know it's supposed to be there. A missing foam strip is invisible, so you're basically chasing a ghost from the start. I could argue that 8 hours is actually impressive discipline, not a waste. Most people would give up after two hours and blame the lens, so sticking with it until you found the real problem shows good troubleshooting, even if the fix was small.

Oh man, that is brutal. I mean, I've definitely spent way too long diagnosing something that turned out to be a tiny rubber grommet or something, but a whole missing foam strip? That's next level. Idk about you but after hour 6 I would have just assumed it was a ghost in the camera or something and given up. Maybe it's just me but those little foam bits are always the thing that gets overlooked, they're like the gremlins of camera repair. You probably could have saved yourself a full workday if you just sniffed the mirror box first thing, haha.
