Showerthought: I just read that a 1970s Nikon F2 shutter can fire over 150,000 times
Found it in a really old service manual pdf from a forum archive. I mean, that's a crazy number for a mechanical part from that era, idk. Makes me wonder how many of the ones I see are even close to that count. Has anyone actually logged the cycles on a well-used F2 before a major service?

That "crazy number" really puts my modern gear's life expectancy into a sad new light.

My buddy's new laptop died right after the warranty, but his grandpa's old typewriter still works like a charm.

Actually, that old typewriter only does one thing. Try editing a document or sending an email with it. Patriciaellis is right about the life expectancy being sad, but we trade that for doing a million more tasks. A laptop dying is frustrating, but it's also a complex tool that gets used way harder than a simple machine.
