That $60 fortress blueprint kit was a total waste of tape

Overheard a guy at the hardware store bragging about this pre-cut template set for cardboard castles, so I grabbed one. After three hours of watching the panels peel apart because the glue dots don't hold for more than fifteen minutes, I'd rather just freehand everything with a hot glue gun next time. Anyone else find those kits are just overpriced gimmicks?

Yeah the glue dots on those kits are garbage. I tried one once and the whole thing fell apart before I even finished building it. My advice is grab a roll of that blue painter's tape and a hot glue gun. Just draw your own template on some cardboard boxes with a pencil. That way you can make the castle exactly how you want it and the tape actually stays put while the glue dries.

The glue dots are bad but telling people to build from scratch with hot glue and cardboard is a bigger ask than you're making it sound. Not everyone has the patience to measure and cut their own templates, especially if they just want something quick for a kids party. The prepared kits work fine if you use a little school glue or tacky glue on top of the dots. I've built three of those castle kits with my nephew and they held up for weeks once we reinforced the corners with a smear of Elmer's. Telling people to ditch the whole thing and start over feels like overkill when a forty cent bottle of glue fixes the problem.
