PSA: I paid $400 for a 'career coach' who just gave me basic Google search advice
I was stuck in my job search and thought a pro could help. Found this guy online with great reviews, so I booked a package. Over three calls, all he did was tell me to look up companies on LinkedIn and tweak my resume keywords, stuff I already knew. I could have saved that money and just asked a friend. Has anyone found a coach who actually gave real, useful advice?

Honestly my friend had the same thing happen, which totally proves @ray_king's point about it being a gamble.

Ugh, that's brutal. I read an article about how the career coaching space is totally unregulated, so anyone can call themselves one. Makes it a real gamble to find someone legit.

Man, tell me about it. I got burned by a coach who promised the world last year. What finally worked for me was asking for a free, short chat first. I'd grill them on their actual past clients and specific results. If they got vague or defensive, huge red flag. Found a good one that way, but it took a lot of dead ends.
