Just finished a small bench and discovered it's perfectly sized for all the neighborhood cats

I decided to build a little bench for my garden out of some scrap pine. I thought I measured everything right, but it came out a bit low to the ground. Now every cat on the block uses it as their personal lounging spot, and I can't get any work done in the garden without an audience. I mean, it's cute, but maybe I should have made it taller.

Yeah, but free garden cats aren't all fun. They dig up my seedlings every spring, like clockwork. Last week I found a big hole where my marigolds were supposed to be. And they use soft dirt as a litter box, which is gross to clean up. That low bench is basically a cat welcome sign for all that mess.

Actually, cats digging up seedlings is a common headache for gardeners. But calling them just a mess misses how they keep rodents away from your veggies. For example, laying down some chicken wire over fresh soil can protect those marigolds. A layer of mulch or even rough stones makes the dirt less inviting for their bathroom needs. With a few changes, that bench can still be a nice spot without all the trouble.

Honestly though, is that even a problem? Free garden cats sounds pretty nice tbh.
