PSA: I learned the hard way about glue cure times

I always hurried through glue joints to save time. A bench leg failed because I didn't wait, so I now respect the drying schedule.

Titebond III actually needs 30 minutes of clamp time before you can handle it safely. Clamping for just two minutes might work for some instant glues, but not for woodworking adhesives. The glue needs time to form a strong bond, and rushing it leads to weak joints that fail later. I learned this after a shelf collapsed because I only waited 10 minutes. What glue do you usually use for your projects?

Wait, hold up. Titebond III's bottle actually says 30 minutes to set, but it needs a full 24 hours to fully cure before you put any real weight on it. That shelf collapse after 10 minutes makes total sense. I glued a chair rung once and thought it was good after an hour. Sat on it that night and heard a nasty crack. The joint looked solid but the glue inside was still soft. Now I just follow the bottle and give everything a full day, no shortcuts.

Oh man, I feel this deep in my soul. My entire woodworking process used to be just glue, clamp for like two minutes, and then immediately start messing with it. I'd have more projects held together with hope and fingerprints than actual glue bonds. Now I just set a timer and walk away, because fixing a busted joint takes way longer than just waiting.
