Had to pick between two lunch specials near the office, went with the hole-in-the-wall over the chain
There's this chain sandwich spot and a little family-run taqueria both within a block of my work downtown. I usually go for the chain because it's quick, but I decided to try the taqueria's $8 burrito special last Tuesday. Honestly, it was twice the size and came with a free salsa bar, way better than the $12 footlong I'd get otherwise. The only catch is it took like 12 minutes instead of 5, so you gotta plan ahead. Anyone else have a go-to cheap spot that's worth a little extra wait?

and that 7 minute difference is the line between being a productive employee and getting caught in the break room microwave line. 12 minutes is a small price to pay for not eating a sad desk sandwich though, honestly a burrito that size is probably a meal and a half anyway. sounds like you found the secret lunch hack nobody talks about because they're too busy staring at their phones in the chain line. i'd call that a win even if you had to explain to your boss why you were two minutes late.

Oh wait, I gotta push back a LITTLE on the "meal and a half" thing. Most burrito places actually weigh their portions pretty consistently, so that 12 minute one is probably just a normal burrito with extra rice or beans packed tight. Still beats the sad desk sandwich ANY day, especially if you factor in the time you save not waiting for the microwave.
