Can we talk about that $200 chef's knife I dropped on concrete?
Bought a $200 Japanese carbon steel knife three months ago and it slipped out of my hand onto the tile floor yesterday, chipped the tip so bad I had to grind it down to a petty knife shape, has anyone else ruined a nice knife in one dumb second?

Dropped my old Wusthof on a garage floor a few years back and the tip snapped clean off. I was so mad at myself I just left it in the drawer for a month before I got around to fixing it. Ended up grinding it into a sort of mini chef knife, still use it for smaller tasks. Also, @jake_hall88, I feel you on the sentimental part, that Shun nakiri was probably your first nice knife. My story is basically the same as yours, just with a different brand and a concrete floor instead of a sink.

Took a chunk out of my Shun nakiri hitting the sink edge last year. Sentimental value was worse than the money. I just sharpened it into a smaller profile like you did and it's still my go-to for veg prep.
