I don't always recommend chimney caps, and it's causing arguments
I've put caps on for years, but now I see they can make things worse. In some cases, caps keep wetness in and speed up rust in the flue. I look at each chimney on its own before saying to add a cap. My work buddy says I'm not thinking about safety, but I focus on good air flow. Have you had this happen?

Arguments like this are so frustrating. Maybe it's just me, but your airflow focus makes a lot of sense.

What makes these debates so hard to move forward? I totally feel your frustration when good points get ignored. Your take on airflow is correct because it affects everything else in the setup.
