I finally saw the light on climate controlled storage after 3 years

Had my 1970 Mustang stored in a regular unit for 3 years. Just moved it into a climate controlled place 2 months ago and the difference is NUTS. No more musty smell when I open the door, and the chrome isn't getting that weird foggy haze anymore. I also noticed the rubber seals on the doors are way more flexible now instead of feeling hard and cracked. The extra cost is about $40 more a month, but honestly seeing the interior not get that sticky feeling in summer heat makes it worth every penny. Has anyone else switched and noticed big changes in their interior or paint?

Ha, I feel this. I kept my comic book collection in a non-climate controlled shed for like four years and I'm pretty sure they're all just brittle now, which is great because I was planning on retiring on the value of Amazing Spider-Man #300. The rubber seals on my car are basically fossilized at this point, so maybe I should just admit defeat and pay the extra forty bucks. The musty smell you mentioned is definitely what finally got me to switch too, that stuff is impossible to get out.

Oh man, did you ever try the bag of charcoal trick to get that musty smell out? I had a box of old records that got damp in my basement, and I swear I tried everything. Baking soda, those little moisture absorber packets, even leaving them out in the sun for a whole weekend. Nothing worked. Finally I just threw the whole box away and started over, which hurt because some of those were original pressings. But honestly, that smell just gets into everything like a ghost you can't exorcise. So yeah, I feel your pain on the comics situation, but at least with a car you can just replace the seals. That musty smell though, it's like it has a grudge.
