Noticing how simulation tools are changing program checks in CNC work

I've been seeing a lot of operators talk about using simulation software to look at programs before cutting. It seems smart to stop crashes, but I'm confused why some skip the old way of dry runs or manual looks. In my time, simulation can miss stuff like tool bend or material differences. At a local get-together, a person said their simulation showed all good, but the part was bad because the software didn't have workpiece shift. This got me thinking how we mix new tools with basic know-how. Are we leaning too hard on simulation? I'd like to hear how others deal with this. To me, it looks like core skills are getting less focus.

Seen this with GPS... blind trust erodes basic know-how.

Oh man, @anthony_sullivan68, you're spot on. I got so used to GPS that once my battery died and I was completely lost in my own town. I realized I hadn't paid attention to any street names or landmarks for years. It really shows how quickly we can forget the basics.

That "blind trust erodes basic know-how" line is perfect. So what's the bare minimum check you'd never skip, even with a perfect sim?
