Heard a guy at the coffee shop say he learned to code by building one thing a month

He was talking to a friend about how he got stuck for a year just doing tutorials. His new rule was to pick a small project, like a weather app or a to-do list, and finish it in 30 days no matter what. He said his third project, a basic budget tracker, was the one where things finally clicked. I tried it myself and just finished a simple countdown timer after about three weeks. It forced me to actually Google problems instead of just following a video. Has anyone else tried learning with a strict monthly project rule? What did you build first?

Read a blog post where someone called it the "monthly project challenge." Their first thing was a really basic website that showed random quotes.
