People who hog the big tables for hours with just a laptop are the worst.
I was at The Daily Grind in Austin for a full day of client calls and saw a guy take a six-person table at 8 AM. He had one coffee cup and his laptop open until 2 PM, turning away three different groups. That's just rude when the place only has four big tables. I always pack up and move to the bar or a small spot if I'm done with my main work and see people looking. How do you handle seeing someone camp out like that?

Start looking at the little details people leave behind. Last week I watched a guy camp at a big table for four hours, but his water bottle had a company logo from a coworking space a block away. He was literally sitting in a cafe to avoid paying his coworking membership. I actually snapped a photo of his bottle and showed the barista. She laughed and said they deal with that all the time. So maybe part of the problem is people gaming the system, not just needing a workspace. It shifts the blame from the customer to the place that's already being taken advantage of.

Oh, that drives me nuts. I've actually asked a manager to gently say something before. It's a shared space, not an office. If it's busy, my limit is about ninety minutes at a big table.
